Touring France we were fortunate to find ourselves near to Stage 8, Les Rousses, of "Le Tour". After waiting for three hours soaking up the atmosphere and watching the preceding caravan the bikes are gone in a flash!
Ooh, I do envy you, getting to see the world's greatest sporting event for real.
Like you say, cycle racing is over in a flash. It helps to get all of your settings sorted out well in advance and fire off a lot of shots while you can.
