  • Wheatear Family

These were taken at the foot of a scree under Crag Lough on the Roman Wall. There were 2 juvenile wheatears and 2 adults and they were VERY tolerant. As usual I had the wrong kit - I had the E410 + 45-150mk1, when I'd have been better off with the E3/70-300. However, that lens is pretty good and the wheatears let me get fairly close.

    Re: Wheatear Family

My favourite is the last one but all excellent in both subject matter and surroundings.

I am trying to think exactly where it is as I frequented the the Roman Wall when I lived in Hexham many years ago.

No1 for me also.I used to have this lens when I had my E500 and always got good results with it.
Shame it was sold on as a kit.

        Very nice.

Love all the detail on this family.......never seen a young one....and the parents always stay out of lens reach.

            Re: Wheatear Family

            thanks all.

Alan, the spot these were taken was beside Twice Brewed/Steel Rigg. There is a line of crags heading east from the road leading up to Steel Rigg car park from Twice Brewed. These crags are at their highest about half a mile from the road, where they stand above the lake (Crag Lough). I was at the bottom of the steep scree slope below these crags - a couple of hundred yars from the famous Sycamore Gap. At the left hand side of this photo

Love the second image, such a cartoon stance, can imagine it doing a stick figure penguin walk along the rock.
