  • Police chase climbers away

Our club was were meant to have an evenings climbing at Simonside, the hills next to Rothbury . The police were not impressed so we went to a nice little roadside crag and had a splendiferous evening in the sunshine .

Great picture and interesting point of view. It must be a drag carrying that ladder everywhere, but this shot shows it's worth it..

Nah, he just spoilt the purity of the route by banging in a line of pitons and fixing a permanent rope! Great picture, though!

BTW John, you should have told the police at Rothbury that you weren't climbing but bounty hunting, for the 10K reward. The ropes and hardware were for tying him up and pinning him down!

If he'd banged pitons in our beloved sandstone he'd have been in more trouble than the gun toting loon

We've got a particularly wild looking Romanian club member who was at the crag, we did consider shaving his head and trussing him up and claiming the 10 grand, the Police would have thought he had a Mackem accent

Hmm. 10 grand though.. Think of the lenses that would buy.

I thought you might say something like that - it would have been sacrilege!

Public protection. I can see why the police would be nervous about a group of climbers venturing into the hills where a raging psychopath is holed up. The probability that he is now laying low on Salisbury Plain or in the Outer Hebrides has no place in a policeman's logic.

On sandstone I think Via Ferrata would be safer.

They are too busy stopping photographers under section 44 to deal with minor things like a nutter on the loose
