            Thanks everyone...

Rocky....Yes it was from a hide...almost sure this one was from a Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust one.
The bargain of the year is membership of ANY trust as it allows access to all the others...except maybe one I think.
Still a challenge to nab a decent shot though.

I'd be happy just to see the darn birds, let alone get a clear shot of one.
You should be well happy to get such great shots. Super.

                Re: Singing Reedy

                Great shot and lovely composition.

A few words of clarification about Wildlife Trusts. "The Wildlife Trusts" is an umbrella organisation and each county trust is an independant charitable trust which has its own policies regarding "charges" etc. Most trusts, like Essex Wildlife Trust of which I am a member and volunteer, as far as I am aware "request" a voluntary donation for entry to reserves which have Visitor Centres etc. rather than making a charge. One exception to this I am aware of is Norfolk Wildlife Trust who then have to get involved with the dreaded VAT. We ask our visitors if they are members of our trust and if they say they are members of another trust we tell them that counts and we do not request a donation. One advantage of the donation approach is that for the sake of a signature from the visitor we can claim Gift Aid from the Inland Revenue which makes a significant contribution to our fundraising each year. To put things in perspective we(Essex WT) have 87 reserves totaling 7,250 acres many of which have birdwatching hides etc. We have 7 visitor centres for which we request a donation from non members and educate 44,000 children and adults every year.
Sorry that turned out to be more than a few words but thought it might be of interest. As you say, bargain of the year and it acheives a lot for conservation as well.

                Regards

Hi Keith, great bird image and great sunrise - you are certainly getting good value from your local reserves.

                        Re: Singing Reedy

Thanks John and Gregles.........yes I have been coming and going at the reserve since 1973.........and they still ask for my membership card....mind you I do look shifty.
Its about 20 mins from home and 30 from work. The other Friday i was having a really bad day surviving work and as the sun came out in the afternoon all I could think of was getting out of work at 7 and having a good "winding down" session at the reserve.I hoped to see a Kingfisher but did not care when I did not...just being out and about with the sun going down and listening / watching the birds going through their various evening rituals was great....BUT...it got better as a Hobby turned up to join the gulls in a feeding frenzy on the swarms of flying insects that the late sun had bought out.
I went home with a smile on my face.

                        Cheers
