West Wales and Skomer Island meet photos: look in here!!
Re: West Wales and Skomer Island meet photos: look in here!!
We just got back today so apologies for the delayed post and a big thanks to John for organising the trip.
Here are a couple of pics from my Panasonic G1, the 45-200mm can't match the quality of the Olympus long lenses I'm afraid.
1. I expected rocky grandeur but Skomer is unexpectedly colourful, great drifts of bluebells and pink campions. This is South Haven
2. Find the owl - it's here somewhere!
3. The puffins are great , very brave, even walking between the legs of tripods to get to their burrows.
4. Every trip has to have a crew photo, and there is always someone looking the wrong way.
5. I also took a lot of shots with my M8, this is Little Haven by infra red.
Incidentally if anyone fancies starting a life of crime you could do worse than hold up the Skomer boat queue, easy 1/4 mill worth of camera gear there on Saturday I think.

Great photo ops. Wish I had been there. Ah well, there is always next year!
The puffins look very approachable. Is this actually the case or is it that you have to have a decent length zoom lens to capture them?

They are very tame / tolerant of people and will come within inches of you if your stood in their way infact if they want to cross the path and you're on it they'll stand there watching you, waiting for you to move unless they have sandeels - then they don't normally hang around as the gulls mob them. You would get some nice photos with just a wide angle with a little bit of patience that said the narrower field of view of a telephoto makes for nicer backgrounds which can be very busy due to the strange blanket of vegetation and / or unsightly bare patches of soil etc.
We just called off our trip their Saturday a phonecall earlier today revealed that due to the wind direction (N) there will be no ferry tommorrow or Friday and Saturday was almost certainly going to be the same - it's too far for a just maybe trip and so we plan to get down there when we get more settled weather.
