  • Storm Aftermath - Manly

During the lead-up to New Year, we were hit by a series of storms. - Big winds and driving rain. "Batten Down the Hatches" type weather. Fortunately my house was equal to the test. The new retaining wall between my property and the neighbour's helped. There were lots of fallen tree branches on the roads and footpaths.

On New Year's Day, I decided to have a look at the damage along Manly's Upper Esplanade.

Unfortunately we're seeing a lot of that, accompanied by severe flooding, here at the moment. I feel for the several hundred people who were forced to evacuate their small villages in northern Germany over the Christmas and New Year period due to flooding.

I feel for those people. They are having to evacuate in mid-winter, whereas we are at least in mid-summer, although it is slightly cool right now. If we have a very dry winter, as we have had, we can usually expect a very wet summer. Far Northern Queensland has been hit especially badly, while South Eastern Queensland (SEQ) has had a fair bit of localised flash flooding.

A friend of mine who lives in Murrumba Downs, to the north of the Brisbane CBD, quipped "Been raining all night. Animals lining up in two's." I have started calling him Noah.
