Clapham Court is a block of flats in Gloucester due for demolition in early 2024. Many of the residents have been rehoused, others are still waiting to go. In what I think was an imaginative move, the housing association that run the block opened it to the public for weekend visits. They commisioned art installations in some of the vacant flats and I took the opportunity to visit last weekend. The views over the city were superb. Apparently it has always been a rule that no building in the city could be built higher than the cathedral- something as a lifelong resident I was ashamed not to know. An exception was given to the hospital apparently. My two favourite flats were one decorated with spray cans by a local student and another with an apple tree in the living room. This reflected the orchards that used to exist in that spot many hundreds of years ago.
