We are thinking about the above countries for Bird / wildlife photography, does anyone have any recommendations of what to do (or not to do). All information gratefully received. TIA

We've been to the Gambia three times, largely for bird photography, but also to escape some of February's weather back home. Kotu is a popular spot and we have stayed at the Sunset Beach Hotel which is only yards from Kotu creek which is a great location. The local guides will take you up the creek in a canoe for an hour which has been very productive.Originally posted by nc_killie View PostWe are thinking about the above countries for Bird / wildlife photography, does anyone have any recommendations of what to do (or not to do). Totally agree with The Gambia. We've been twice, staying at different hotels in different areas.
What I always do is choose a few likely hotels then go to Google maps (on the computer is best for the bigger screen) and check out exactly where the hotels are located, then I use the 'walking feature' to walk around the area to see where paths/water/countryside are accessible. I reject those hotels which are unsuitable because of location.
It's a basic but lovely country, there are birding guides available from pretty much every hotel and many independent ones too, or even just wander around yourself and see what you can find in the variety of birds, insects, flowers etc .etc.
The bonus is that it's a lot nearer than Sri Lanka.
The hotel that Mike mentioned (above) does look very good and, if my wife's health improves enough that we can go travelling again, will be the one I will be considering highly.

I recently flew from Entebbe to London in business class and the return trip cost almost £4,000. Since I need a flatbed seat for medical reasons on long flights, I’m hoping to find a better deal.Originally posted by nc_killie View PostWe are thinking about the above countries for Bird / wildlife photography, does anyone have any recommendations of what to do (or not to do). I was also considering another flight back to the UK, but the prices have jumped to over £6,000 for both of us in business class. The airlines are saying that costs will only go up. We know that oil prices and the war can really affect how much air travel costs. So, please keep that in mind when you book your flight.
Have a wonderful holiday, filled with beautiful views and amazing wildlife photography!

Just a thought, If you do decide on The Gambia, then Tui fly there and, I think, the Sunset Beach hotel mentioned earlier is one of their hotels. It means that you can book the full package rather than flights (which can and do get cancelled/re-timed) and hotel separately.
Just a thought.
