  • Budget 2024

Well, the budget is finally done!

Got to admit there is a positive for those who drink draught beer: it will be a penny cheaper.

But, will pubs survive the increases in staff costs and NI ?

Pubs are on a downhill slope anyway. We will all be paying more for everything...

Well budget is a total disaster for those with personal pension pots. As of 2027 these will be inside of Inheritance tax..........grrrrrrrr

Better get drinking some of this cheaper beer!

Unfortunately, the price of beer will likely rise because of the higher tax expenses the landlords now have to pay for their staff and other expenses going up.

The big car tax rises are only for the first year after buying a new car, not existing older vehicles.
Not so sure about sinking, I thought we had already plumbed the depths of exploitation.

No wrong ..I think you will find that a lot are actually doubling in price based on emissions .. you really have to read everything twice to see how tricky they are ,and of course it’s the tories fault for everything

The budget didn't seem as bad for a retired person as I thought with pre-budget scares about things like them limiting tax free cash you can have from a private pension not coming to fruition.

You could previously stuff £1m in a pension and pass it on tax free to your descendants if you were rolling in it I think - so it just seems like they closed a loop hole on that. Maybe give money away to your kids while still alive is better? The Martin Lewis chap has a good summary of the pension IHT change:

The increased national insurance for small to mid-sized employers is going to be harsh for some. It seems like the NHS itself is getting an Employers National Insurance tax bypass operation but other essential healthcare outfits like GP Surgeries and Care Homes not so much - not very well thought out.

I'm not sure there's much in it to help young people struggling to buy their own home and ending up living with parents for years? A "promise" of tax bands being given an uplift to take into account inflation from 2028 maybe. Otherwise, it is still stealth tax with the various allowances still being frozen.

          Yeah, that 1p on a beer...I don't think we'll see it.

Pretty much what I expected despite some of the click bait headlines from parts of the media.
Hoped for a bigger crackdown on tax evasion loopholes, but its a start after 14 years of the country being sucked dry.

Can't see any sign of an end to that "being sucked dry" sensation any day soon. Just different snouts in the same trough. Never mind - can't wait to enjoy that £5.99 pint!

I haven't heard anything about how it will affect consultants, who were recently taxed heavily when they worked extra hours.

It is not widely known that she and Liz Truss were separated at birth.

It certainly isn't the budget for growth that we were promised. More tax and employment costs going up which will make employment, especially for the young and inexperienced more difficult.

Perhaps its time the taxpayer stopped subsidising employers with low pay benefits for their employees.
Also glad to see stamp duty rise on second home purchases. Hopefully it will give first time buyers more choice and chance to get a foothold.
Sort of budget I voted for, still more to do though to get this country back on its feet after years of neglect.

That's not the only thing the taxpayer needs to stop subsidising!

I went to buy something from a local model shop today I last went there two weeks ago. A specialised shop with a good stock and helpfull 3 staff , super reputation throughout the north west . …. Permanently closed as of last weekend no indication anything was wrong so can only read between the lines and blame it on the budget ..

I know of one model shop in the NW that closed very recently, it specialised in weathering of models.
They announced the decision in July, reason was not disclosed, shop was called Grimy Times.

Are you going to the Scale Model World show in Telford this coming weekend?
