  • My Two-handled, One-wheeled Pond

We have a wheelbarrow in our garden which retains every drop of rain which falls in it. During the last 2-3 weeks it had accumulated an amount indicating about a foot of rainfall.

It was nearly full and one of our water buts needed topping up. So I started transferring the water via a bucket, avoiding the sunken dead leaves.

I had transferred most of the water when I saw movement near the leaves. A closer look found that 3 individuals of a species of water beetle were swimming around.

Nice to find the water beetles. We've definitely had at least six inches of rain in the last couple of weeks. My wheelbarrow is supposed to be under cover, but rain still gets into it at an angle, so it has a puddle in it.

The forecast is for 2-3 days of dry weather, here, including today, which is a relief. Last winter was miserably wet, and I really hope it won't be the same, or as bad.
