I took this photo at the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa / bathing area near Grindavík on a trip to Iceland in 2013. I think the eruption will be somewhere beyond the steaming geothermal power station in this shot. We stayed at a hotel called the Northern Light Inn even closer to the eruption not far from there out in the lava fields. I'm in two minds as to whether I'd want to be staying in the area at the moment - it would make some great photo opportunities!
An amazing place for certain. I hope the volcanic ash does not disrupt my home ward flight on January 5th '24...Otherwise, I might have to stay in Hawaii for a bit longer...
