The Farne Islands

Was booked to go on the 2 island long tour today, but the weather was so good you could barely see across Seahouses harbour. The sae was also pretty rough looking. - So the sailings were cancelled ;(

We went to NT Cragside this morning and Long Nanny reserve this afternoon, the weather has calmed down so we've been busy re-organising tomorrows trip part way home so we can go on the early one island sailing...

Finger crossed it all works out!

The sea should be fairly calm today but the rain is persisting. I wonder whether Cuthbert had this problem?

If you are looking for somewhere to go in the rain Durham is always worth a visit. Ushaw College, a former seminary about three miles from Durham City is one of Augustus Pugin's masterpieces and has a very reasonable and warm refectory with excellent food! Ushaw is open to the public from 10 O'clock until 4 O'clock daily.

I'd love to visit Durham - it's a pity that it's outside the comforting embrace of the M25, though!

We always enjoy Wallington, which is a few miles inland from Cragside in the wilds of Northumberland. What a wonderful place to have lived back in the day.

I prefer the comforting embrace of King's Cross station as it slips out of view through the carriage window - on the way home!

The view of Durham City and the cathedral from the railway viaduct is stunning and is one of the best viewpoints in the area.

So what's the price of a return ticket from London to Durham? ISTRC a student found it cheaper to travel home from London to somewhere 'Up North' flying via Berlin, rather than by train!

Rescheduled the day and got to the ticket office...

"Boats are sailing, but it's unsafe to land so you won't be going ashore..."

Gave up and carried on with plan B!

No trip to the Farne Islands.
