Re: It's Been a Samsung Summer
Harold, Nigel, John - even in Auto mode the new Galaxy S8+ phone camera does a remarkably good job in most situations, especially at night or low light. Its Pro mode allows ISO1250 which for some reason, not understood, takes amazingly noise free images at night - it revels in darkness. Also has multi point focus modes, white balance, EV settings plus a bunch of special effects for those that like to mess with that stuff. Also has Wi-Fi, optional location coordinates and an impressive array of other features that I can't recall offhand. Of course it has no optical zoom but for around 1,000AUD (562.00GBP) I reckon it's darn good value and you'll probably bring home more keepers than with a dslr (in this old geriatric's hands anyway!). I'll also have with me the XZ2 and E3, although I'm sure the Galaxy will be doing the heavy lifting in Ireland, and above all it's truly great fun to use. It will be interesting to see how it handles the totally different October / November light in Southern Ireland ... can be dismal I hear - don't be surprised to see a few 'layered in' Aussie skies!

Re: It's Been a Samsung Summer
The fact is that as all smartphones make phone calls consumers now buy smartphones on the basis of camera performance.
I can see the day coming when pro photographers rock up to press and wedding assignments with a state of the art Galaxy.
Not sure that will be in Prince Harry's and Meghan Markle's time, but maybe at either Prince George's or Princess Charlotte's wedding,
Lord Snowdon would turn in his grave!
