OOOH! You are naughty... but I like you.

As for TB's reply, it would probably be along the lines of: Am I bovvered?

Not many years ago our Tory MP was the wealthiest. He and his wife were
supporters of Augusto Pinochet (Thatcher's favourite human rights violator).

Oh that's sad. I see that now. Whether or not you agreed with him he always added some colour to the discussion.

I don’t know anything about his personal circumstances but I often worry about cutting off people in that way. For all we know the forum could have been his only social contact as it is with a lot of older people.

It was not just this thread, some others and some PM's

It was not an easy decision either and something that had careful consideration by all the administration group over recent times and only taken after all other avenues were felt to be exhausted

Personally I agree with your last point thought though back to pictures is good for us all and good for the group

The Conservatories don't claim to represent the working class. They represent the individual, life is not fair deal with it. Working hard pays a reward - simple as that.

The whole history of Labour was founded on representing the working class. Now the Hard Left Momentum mob, who are afraid to stand in their own name, are trying to con their way in to government with Mr Corbyn as their harmless front man. The naive young voters of today are falling for his lies but it will take a disaster like Venezuela for them to wake up.

Thanks for high-lighting the fact. I had to look it up on his profile page as it doesn't show up elsewhere?

After NN's remark I had thought he had taken time out after the thread had been closed. So yes, even if just a tempoary ban, it is a sad state of affairs.

Banning anyone is a last resort. This is the first time a member of some history on the site has been banned for several years. The decision was mine alone but supported unanimously by my moderators. It's always our policy NOT to be heavy-handed with our management of the site. Our record is proof of that. I have no wish to make a song and dance of this. I have corresponded with John today and, unfortunately, we have been unable to agree a satisfactory compromise that could have made the ban temporary.

However, I strongly believe that politics and the environment are subjects that should be discussed more rather than less. One of the reasons that our world is in the mess it is today is that we don't discuss these topics enough and we don't understand them sufficiently.

However, we need to be able express differences of opinion without making them personal, just as professionals often disagree whilst remaining friends and maintaining good working relationships.

Furthermore, there must always be a right to reply and to challenge views that do not make sense so that arguments are properly tested. Equally we must accept that some members are better able to express their views than others and this should not debar anyone from expressing an opinion.
I think I said this weeks ago, sigh.

Banning is all the more contentious when members are invited to contribute to the running of the forum. I don't know if there could be legal implications in this, but there could certainly be Data Protection issues under the new GDPR.

At the very least members have the right to be provided with copies of all data and correspondence held on their accounts, and also have the right to request that their contributions and images are permanently deleted.

Johntheheatingman was a voice of disagreement with some on here, I know. I disagreed on some points, but come on. I thought this was a site for grown ups not spiteful children.
The members age poll I did today is obviously wrong.

At least John got a reaction, not mind numming acceptance that the EU fixes all Europes problems and is the only way forward as claimed by some.

Yes, he was forthright, so what? Others have posted far more seriously worrying views than he ever did and I did raise it.

Obviously the big bad world outside the EU is too scary and we can't possibly survive! Seems Remain have won at least on here. So lets all remain in the EU and do what we are told, just keep paying the money and take what we are given, isn't it great? how cosy.

He should not have be banned. Admins this is a mistake in my eyes,
                            but its your call.

If this is the style of Forum you want then OK. After almost three years as a member I think I will just not bother posting anymore.

Feel free to ban me as well if that makes you feel better.

I immediately reminded John of his rights regarding GDPR and I will comply with anything he requires in this respect. So far, he has not requested I do anything.

He had made a donation to the appeal fund and this was also immediately refunded.

I believe that this is a unique case. It's very sad but the decision had to be made.

I am very sorry if this decision does not sit well with you. I only ask you to look at our record. We just don't ban members on a whim.

Dave, I sense that we don't know all the facts here on the ban so taking a strong position is perhaps unwise. In any case, I trust Ian, John and the other admins.

On the Brexit issue - I think this whole thread shows that there are strong opinions and deep divisions. I really think it's best we stop beating this particular horse and find more appropriate things to comment on and argue about.
