  • Spamming Alert!

A watchdog has revealed it is investigating a premium-rate texting campaign, following complaints from recipients that they have been charged fees even though many believe they never opted into the service.

    Re: Spamming Alert!

Thanks Wally, my wife got caught out by one of these some months ago and is absolutely certain she did not click on anything. It was only later when checking the billing that she spotted it.

This sounds very much along the lines that Naughty Nigel got caught out on. The mobile phone operators like Vodafone. 02 and EE etc., should get their act together and have some sort of Call Guardian - which I have on my land-line - to prevent all but those on your contact list from getting through. When they have the law on their side, then legal theft just about sums this up

Thanks for the alert Wally. I've been in touch with my mobile operator, EE, mentioning the BBC article referenced above, and at my request they've placed a block on my account meaning third parties cannot 'enrole' me into such things. I can still use it as a phone, messaging, Internet etc so I'm happy.

I'm off down-town today to request the very same so it's nice to know that it can be done.

Or phone 150 from your handset and answer a few security questions. Took me 5 mins, and that included discussing the weather. EE don't use off shore call centres, so the staff are easy to understand (technically I'm wrong in what I say, you can be put through to Ireland, but that's not an issue).
