Re: 40-150mm R: What have I done this Christmas?
The 40-150R seems an ideal solution for you. I have two of these and neither are working with any of my bodies including my new Pen F. I am sure it can't be the contacts or the locking pins. Both lenses were bought used and have worked with my EM1 and EPL5 so I think it is something else but I am perplexed as to what it could be

Re: 40-150mm R: What have I done this Christmas?
Angst is indeed the word. Sounds like you got to a good result though.
Regarding the 7-14... I actually do a lot of UWA photography. In fact, my Panasonic 7-14 was the second most used lens last year according to the analysis from my LR catalogue using Jeffrey Friedl's LR tools (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies). Moreover, if I include shots taken on my 12-35 at its wide end, then 25% of my photos last year were in the 7-12mm range. Going only a bit wider, a little over 60% of shots were at 25mm or wider. My poor 50-200 only managed 5 shots that survived my usual culling - maybe I should sell it!
So, I often think I should get the 7-14/2.8 - but its size and weight just completely puts me off. For similar reasons I can't see me getting the 40-150/2.8 either. Those sort of lenses aren't what got me into u43. Now, I'm not saying that u43 shouldn't have these sort of lenses, just that they're not to my taste. That we can choose small and light (e.g. 9-18) or big and heavy (7-14) shows that u43 has now become a broad church and I wouldn't want to argue against that.

It's too cheap to have any!Originally posted by cliff View PostFirmware update maybe?
Stopped down to F8 you'd be hard pressed to tell it from the pro version.

Re: 40-150mm R: What have I done this Christmas?
I have this lens (bought used for peanuts) and the Pro. The R gives very good results within its limitations and weighs next to nothing. It tucks into a pocket or a small bag for a photo stroll.
The Pro 40-150/2.8 lens comes out when I want to do some more serious work. It's not light but it's a lovely lens.
It's nice to have a choice

If I can get one of them to work, it will complement my new Pen F nicely.Dave

Re: 40-150mm R: What have I done this Christmas?
I always keep the 40 ~ 150 R in my camera bag as it is small enough and light enough to take everywhere.
It is a very handy lens, but I find it is best to stay away from the 150 mm end, as quality seems to nosedive beyond about 120 mm. This is not helped by camera shake!
The lens does have firmware, but I don't think there have been any updates yet.---------------

Thank you Jim. Bags are very personal and I won't buy one without seeing it but I shall look out for this.Originally posted by Jim Ford View PostThis bag may be ideal for your kit....
MFT has definitely matured in the last 3 years. I thought that if I got the 9-18 then I would always regret not having the 7-14. Yet another angst moment.Originally posted by pdk42 View PostAngst is indeed the word. Sounds like you got to a good result though. ...[the 7-14/2.8] size and weight just completely puts me off.
