I'm a bit against having a law to allow me take photos - ther is no law against it now and any new law is likely to be restrictive rather than liberating.
I'm no lawyer but seem to remember from some long distant course that 'English Law is restrictive - not permissive". Basically, and I paraphrase, obviously the lawyer giving the seminar took two hours to say this - "if there is no law saying you can't do something, you can"

Just the response you would expect from a politician or governmental department; worded in very general terms, inprecise, non-specific, unhelpful and avoiding the issue!

Could this mean that in the near future, there will be designated areas where one can take photographs? ie. a signboard with camera allowed or best views.

Whilst I am absolutely against the invasion and restriction of our 'rights to photograph', I have to say I am all in favour of the restrictions placed on smokers.
The continual exposure (please excuse the pun) of people to DSLR sensors has an extremely low probability of causing them any form of harm.
Ah but that depends on what exposure the sensors caught them doing and how many times and with whom
Ah, now we're getting to the heart of the matter. No wonder politicians want to ban photography! I mean, it seems they are (or were) all at it, from Jeremy Thorpe to Paddy Ashdown, John Major to John Prescott - the list could go on. In fact it might be quicker to list those who haven't dabbled where they shouldn't and, as far as those that have been indiscrete are concerned, the less photographers around to capture the sordid details the better!
I wonder who screwed Maggie? Oh, sorry, I forgot - she screwed all of us!
