    Re: Photoshop CS3 vs Mac

I'm not suggesting this, but in all your uninstalling and reinstalling have you ever done a low level format of the hard drive. This is rarely done these days will probably take an hour or two. But it really cleans the drive.

Your iMac sounds current and more than capable (better than mine anyway). What PS plug-ins have been added to the PS Plug-in folder? Any odd utilities added to the Mac? Is the local software writer Evan Gross, by chance?

      Hi Steve
first of all thanks for your input. I have downloaded and installed the following

as suggested by Derik and I am just waiting for a few hours to see if this works. If it does, I just don't know why the Mac Support team didn't suggest it. I will keep you all up to date as to the results. I really appreciate the support from this friendly forum, it says zillions about the Brits!! I guess that is why I keep coming back every May for my Holidays .... it is all about the people!! as to your questions, my system is an iMac 24'" 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 30 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and came with the OS Leopard installed. No additiona plu-ins installed. I have no idea who the software writer is/was.

Yes Derek, not only is it working, it is faster!! Thanks to everyone and particularly you Derek for your help! It is amazing that one posting here and I was able to resolve the issue despite Mac technicians saying it was a software program, not the operating system. I wonder how long that fix has been available?

            Re: Photoshop CS3 vs Mac

Bill - It is not a specific fix but the problem occurred because of a faulty update of the operating system, the down load of the delta fix pack may have had a hiccup and installed a duff module - or more likely did not update a module and that made the system corrupt. By downloading the combo fix pack you do a down load and then an expansion of the disk image (DMG file) this would have checked out the integrity of what you downloaded. It also happens in front of you on the screen so you can see if there are any problems.

Quite a few people reported problems after the delta 10.5.6 fix pack was installed, they were cured by using the combo update.

Actually looking back at our first post - the problem occurred with a faulty update way back in July - and the down level module has not been updated since.

Received wisdom is that one should always use the combo fix pack.

This type of problem is very difficult to diagnose because it is possible that you are the only person that has got this specific set of bad modules due to a glitch in your specific update session. So one has to go back to basic principles to ensure that you are on a known level of software.

Any way glad that you are now up and running again.
