During my recent getaway I visited Geelong's new library just as a tour was about to begin.
I asked the guide if photography was okay and it was. The project cost $43M funded jointly by local council, State and Federal governments.
I'm posting here in the Lounge because all were shot with a phone camera.
Hi there Nigel and Steve - the library is 5 levels tall,
I was blown away and you're right, can't beat a hard copy.
A couple more interesting features to add to the thread:
we have to wonder what the role of the local library will be in the future. Will the elder people still be the main uses as now. Digitally it will be [is] possible to connect with major city library.
Good and interesting photos Terry. BTW; A digital photography image is still a photograph no matter what was used the capture the subject
those BIG windows of glass reminds me of the damas with the new library here around 12-15 years ago [bugga; I've been here THAT long?] and how the books started to fade and how hot it was near glass with the hot western sunlight coming in. Yeah; more BIG $$ to fix it!! We have to wonder what architects are taught at times. Certainly not common sense
The elder people are leading the charge into tablet use. They are not intimidated by the tablet format and are drawn by the use of Skype etc to keep in contact with their relatives in far flung lands (ie the next street) from use as a social tool they migrate to using the tablet as a book / newspaper access tool.

You might have heard of the 'Walkie Talkie' building in central London.
I hadn't heard of the "Walkie Talkie" building but I know exactly which it refers to and I like it - such a fun design.
It appears to be saying, "Up yours, old Shard!"
Yes, but it reflects and concentrates the sun's rays at certain times of the year, and has set fire to the road surface and several cars in Oxford Street I believe.
