  • At last - the truth about the War on Terror

In my opinion every word in this article is spot on:-

A very articulate and well reasoned piece John, thanks for posting it.

Re: At last - the truth about the War on Terror

Whilst I agree with the author's analysis and critique, the recipe for fixing it is terribly weak (education, healthcare) given the massive inertia in the political/military/industrial mesh that pervades much of western and Russian establishments. I don't know what the answer is. Disarming is a bit of a pipe dream for sure. Our basic competitive nature and clan-level allegiances (which served us well during our millennia of evolutionary development) seem destined to lock us forever in depressingly predictable conflict.

It is in your nature to destroy yourselves.

If we turn our backs on war, and stand up for our fellow man embrace all religions, will be more powerful than any engagement of war. It will eventually make the Muslims who have gone over to IS, think maybe the rest of the world is right and IS is wrong, and if we stop supplying weapons to them.

That is part of the problem Daveart, someone id supplying weapons to ISIS. Not sure how bombing Syria will help. Part of the solution surely is to stop them getting weapons.

I thought Ken Livingstone spoke a lot of sense about this on QT last week.

Air strikes are a very blunt weapon to use against an enemy that has embedded itself amongst ordinary Syrians; and there is nothing like bombing innocent civilians to stir up hatred, resentment and extremism.

I agree that 'something' needs to be done about ISIS, but air strikes are not the answer IMV.

Bombing is exactly the sort of reaction ISIS wanted to provoke. They must have thought they'd hit the jackpot when Turkey shot down a Russian plane. Thank goodness the Soviet response has been restrained - with Turkey being a member of NATO the situation could have become very, very serious.

Unfortunately this will no doubt encourage ISIS to commit more atrocities. If the response to the terrorist attacks been....nothing......except of course attempting to bring the perpetrators to justice, then ISIS may well have felt a little deflated. We need to become smart and understand the terrorist way of thinking. They want to draw us into a war in the Middle East, they feel it is their destiny. If they are prepared to strap bombs to themselves and detonate them, they are hardly going to be deterred by a few more bombs dropping from the sky.
