  • Read magazines for free.

If you are a member of a council library, you could maybe read lots of mags fro free on your tablet. In Essex, go to Essex libraries website and sign up for a Zinio account. Don't know about others.
Having said that, just read a review of the Oly 14-150 where the reviewer writes, 'No optical stabilisation' as a bad point, mag was Digital camera. It makes me wonder just how knowledgable some of these journalists are.

To be fair to the reviewer, they were probably covering the lens from an M43 perspective (so prospective Panasonic-body owners without IBIS) though they could have mitigated that point by saying about IBIS on Olympus-bodies....out of interest did they say what camera body they used for the review?

Point taken. He did mention IBS in his report. Used an EM-1.

        Re: Read magazines for free.

Last month we had a talk at our local U3A from a financial adviser, and he went on about journalists giving financial "advice"; his comments were basically, well, they know a bit of jargon, they pick up a few facts, put the spin on them that they fancy, then print all that as "good advice". He said, they are wrong far more times than not; and it's worth remembering, that if you take their "advice", there is absolutely no come back on them - unlike professional financial advisers. Wise words!

It used to be said, "Those that can, do; those that can't, teach." Maybe that should read, "Those that can, do; those that can't, become journalists."

And if you'd like a bit more evidence of that statement, all you have to do is remember that, according to Wikipedia, the only real job that Ed Miliband had before going into politics was as a researcher for a Channel 4 TV journalist......

Regarding free magazines, you can also get these via zinio if you have a west Berks library card.

I have been reading camera, car and science mags for a year or more for free. Excellent.

I know! We usually write IBIS, don't we? I couldn't resist a little joke Dave!

Norfolk Library Service also has Zinio. And what's the first mag on the list? AP!

That may not be the case. The law changed a few years ago. Now, if you, as a layman, offer specialist advice, which proves to be in error, you could be sued.

They have to employ cheaper and cheaper journalists now that people have discovered how to read the magazines for free.

I usually go into Smiths with a big coat on and scoop up a load of magazines and walk out. Just joshing.
