  • My first watercolour

My first watercolour painting, I have actually framed

a friend gave me some "Embossing" folders for Arts & Crafts the other weekend and I said "we could emboss this on watercolour paper" and watercolour paint it ! So we did

After our wonderful long weekend up North at Nidd Hall in 2014, this image reminded me of "The Shambles" and so that became my watercolour project.

It is not perfect. But I was chuffed that I used the edge of a fine charcoal stick, to gently "brush" the edge of the timbers.

We all "paint like a child" when we start - because that is the "Skill level of Beginners" no getting away from that fact

But it is so very rewarding to have Inspiration, develop a painting project and complete it, to a degree of satisfaction level.

i even went out an bought a FRAME for the picture. No great expense at Dunelm

Here is a photo of the painting bare of glass and framing for any picking up the brushes and paints again

I left the roof tiles on the top left, with little, slight "tile edges" not sure if I should have watered them over ?

jpeg format has crushed the image ... and it looks almost square, it is not it is rectangular 7" x 5"

Enjoy and be inspired ! Art therapy is sooo very relaxing and can combine with photography too

It's obviously giving you much pleasure and is another string to your bow. Well done.

            Hi there Chevvy!

To steal a phrase from Anika on Radio 2 this morning, you clearly have "Obssessive Creative Disorder". I love the idea of using embossed paper as your base for your watercolour - not something I'd ever thought of. I have to agree that it does remind me of The Shambles in York from our visit last year. Thanks for posting,

            Cheers,

            Ralph.

Hi Ralph, I LURVED the Shambles and all our places we visited and the company too

as regards OCD and your NEW definition - I shall not be drawn on that subject, as it nearly got me into trouble last mention although it is an interesting use of the letters by Anika

Glad YOU enjoyed the embossed, watercolour paper and paint maybe I should post you one (just embossed 4 ?) for you to paint next week, on an afternoon, when your little ones are at school ?

Jeremy, I am working on a "Wildflower" watercolour A3 - but I have to do a bit, leave it to dry and then do a bit more as it has blurred "wet on wet" and sharp, dry on dry too and has a background "wash" which was applied before I started on the wildflowers

Quite a challenge ... but a lot of fun !

Another testimony to your broad artistic talents, Chevvy. Your "first attempt" at watercolours is where many would be glad to finish.
