Re: To all drivers:
At least this is one thing I do not have to worry about, as it is well outside my sphere of expectations.
The last (only) time I had points on my licence was in 1977 when I was clocked doing 43 in a 30 limit. It was a stretch of road I had driven hundreds of times and shamefully I had failed to notice that the limit had recently been reduced from 40, which I was exceeding anyway.John

Re: To all drivers:
I'm not too sure what to make of this.
I have never had any difficulty hiring a car abroad; only in the UK where some hire companies insist on seeing the paper counterpart.
I don't have this problem now as a I have a 'frequent flyer' card with Avis; but there was an occasion when a stroppy Europcar rep refused to let me take a pre-booked car because I didn't have the paper counterpart with me, and she wouldn't phone the DVLA line to verify that my licence was valid. The irony was that I had just returned from Holland where I had hired a car from Europcar without any problem. I haven't troubled them with my business since!
So if I have this right, we are supposed to go online to download form showing any penalty points? Surely this would be easy enough to forge or edit?---------------

Re: To all drivers:
This will be an absolute nightmare. Fortunately, the only times I use a hire car is for work and someone else takes care of it but I wonder how that will work.........hmmmmm.Dave

Re: To all drivers:
Just another so called improvement for a few officials that's likely to make it a pain in the a*** for anyone hiring a car. As I have an old style paper license this is something I just don't need. I'm sure someone got paid handsomely for bringing in this wonderful new system

Re: To all drivers:
I don't know what happened to the paper part of my UK license. I use my Ontario license when in the UK or Europe. I only use my UK license for photo ID in North America to make things difficult.
