  • Socks

Having been very quite on this forum over recent weeks and months and I thought it time to get some important issues brought into the open again as I have done in the past.

So here is something which bothers me increasingly.

Where do all the socks go

I have a pile of odd socks whose other halves have vanished. Where are they?

Have they been stolen by a sock fetishist?

Have they gone to a parallel universe where socks live the good life and sock abuse is actively discouraged ?

Should I send my odd socks to a sock sanctuary where odd socks receive love and care?

    I need to know people

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

    Re: Socks

I suspect they do migrate. I too have a collection of odd socks! After three months of them sitting there suddenly two more odd ones turned up that pair with two from the pile.
Maybe they thought the good life of sockiness was too much like hard work and wanted to have a nice lie down in my sock drawer.

      Re: Socks

We once caught the agent of the sock fairy in the form of our dog! He would take a sock and hide it under cushions on the settee. We thought that was it until we noticed that single socks were still turning up in the laundry basket. The basket is usually in a place the dog cannot reach so were do they go?

Odd socks? I just wear one on the left foot and one on the right. As long as there's not too much of a thickness difference and I end up with a list to the left, that's fine.

Now I have found out my dearly beloved she takes the washing out of the basket and leaves one or two socks in the basket for some reason when the washing comes in from the rotary line three or more are odd. John.

Just impose a compensatory list to the right at the end of the day, (Jim Beam or Johnny Walker can advise) and all will be well.

How many socks do you have to take out of the draw in the dark for a pair?

Just another of life's mysteries, like the wire coat hangers which breed in the wardrobe and the single tea spoon which clatters into the sink when you empty the washing up water out from the bowl.

I try really hard to count pairs in the washing machine and pair up when hanging out to dry, but SOME are elusive ... and there are odd ones ... for a week or two !

If you are looking for lost socks it's always worth trying inside pillow cases and duvet covers - that is where mine normally end up having eluded me whilst emptying the machine and hiding in the next wash instead. Some are lost for months if it's the bedding for the guest room!

                          Cheers,

                          Ralph.

My teenage daughter purposely wears odd socks, apparently it is the fashion. You can even buy odd socks in pairs (not matching pairs)!
