Re: Food for thought
I was only thinking the other day, the Union Jack will have to be re designed and lots of sales will make someone right, if Scotland get Independence!
As regards, Cornwall or Wessex etc., going Independent - I cannot see the economic funding being "livable" for the populations of same
Mind you, if Scotland do lose that oil refinery ... and Portsmouth holds the Shipbuilding - maybe Scotland is not so economically well fund for Independence

Re: Food for thought
Politicians like independence for their own reasons I suspect, but I wonder what effect it will have on us ordinary folk?
Right now we can post a letter from Truro to Inverness (or back) for 60 pence, and there is a reasonable chance that it will arrive next day, or certainly the day after. Would that still apply if one or both became independent? The cost would almost certainly rise, and we might even have to wait for customs clearance at Berwick on Tweed and Saltash - assuming that neither Scotland or Cornwall joins the EU.
More expensively, I can call anyone in the UK from my mobile for nowt using my bundled minutes. If I call from Europe it costs a bit more (I think I pay a 50 pence connection charge then the next hour is bundled free). However, if I call from Turkey it costs about £1.00 a minute - until December, when Vodaphone moves Turkey and Northern Cyprus into Europe. Charges also apply when in Ireland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, but not Northern Ireland.
These are just two examples, but I do wonder whether independence is quite as rosy as it looks at first sight?---------------
