  • Water Meters ?

Anyone on a water meter ?

What do you think ? what is your experience ?

We currently pay £600 for all you can eat use water

Bills gone up or down ?

We have the Southern Water Engineers outside, installing Water Meters NOW probably to commence in April next !

We use lots of water - with the children the dishwasher tends to be on twice a day - with just us once in three days !

We already have a "Porta Potti" camping loo for the children - more convenient in the hall by the playroom, to save running thro' the house with a urgent to the loo child This also saves flushes but costs £150.00 in loo chemicals a year for hygiene; Health & Safety

We have our own borehole and septic tank (not connected to each other), so no water charges.

      Crickey Chevvy,

Most people put their children in the bath, you put them in the dishwasher twice a day - bet they come out all shiney!!

We're most likely to be enforced to have a meter sooner or later. I'm not even sure what the cost is for us at the moment, but next door uses our hose to wash the cars and the like, I guess we'll have to come to an agreement on that once its in. Just after installing that nice new, big shower too...

I have had a water meter for over ten years. I am amazed that they are not compulsory. With all the other utilities you pay for what you actually use, so why not water?

The Man just knocked the door to turn our water off for 5 mins and connect the Meter ... ... but we pay by Direct Debit up to April - so I guess it is going on now ... and billing from April ... I shall have to find out how much per litre ? and read the meter to work out how much we use ...

We have a nice Power Shower and my hair takes 30 mins to wash twice, then condition and all the rinses ... I have just grown it long again ... after a few years of short hair ... I guess its a short cut after Christmas then

Ian, they do come out shiney - but RED from the hot water and screaming

I should have said "what with half a dozen children to feed most week days, and the dishes from breakfasts; lunch & Tea as well as am and pm snacks ... the DW is on twice a day " ...

Decent dishwashes are very economical with water compared to hand washing. It's baths, loos and hosepipes in the garden that tend to use the most water.

We did have to get a new D/W last year and it is "more Green" less water/power but still does a great job

We have a "brick" in the loo cisterns to reduce water waste

Living as we do with "showers" we only have 1 or 2 baths a week and we "share this valuable time" ... taking a drink with Pringles & Pate' on toast ... so we chat and debate issues ... we installed a massive deep and long double bath no taps to enjoy or water based relaxation ...

ps the Water Man just delivered by hand " a nice little booklet to help us in the changeover ..."

and her e is me spending some time on U-Switch re Gas and Electric - I did not realise we spend over £3,000 on those two a year

depressed so going to get a drink soon ... well

Alas, as you might remember Ian, we don't have room in our kitchen to swing a Jack Russell with a docked tail, let alone install a dishwasher ... unless we put it in the back garden.

I haven't had a bath since the trip to Castle Leslie back in September for the E-M1 launch - my room didn't have a shower but it did have a 7-foot bath; yes I could lie in it and not feel either end. I can't even remember when was the time I had a bath before that!

                            Shower every day though! phew!
