  • Tales from the Tea Room

I thought I might make this a sort of regular feature.
Purely because we have had so many 'interesting' customers since we opened.
Today, once again I managed to blow the horn for Olympus.
About 11.15 a middle aged couple came in and had a look around and ordered coffee , filled rolls and cakes.
We got talking and they said how impressed they were with the A2 size Sea Eagle print we have mounted and framed on the wall. They also mentioned that they thought it was too cheap.
Anyway the chap asked wether it was taken using either of the Canikon brands and when I said "No actually it was an OM-D E-M5, an Olympus camera.
He nearly burst into tears and his wife looked very pleased.
Seemingly he has been a life long Oly fan having owned OM 1n's and an OM2sp.
He now owns a used and somewhat battered E420 which was sold to him for next to nothing just before coming away and he was very disappointed with the results. He was looking at them on the rear LCD and they didn't look 'sharp'.
I took his card and downloaded it onto my macbook and he was smitten with
the images. He was about to ditch the Oly and buy aCanikon when he got back home but after a wee play with my OM-D guess what he's going to get?
Thats two sales at least now. Long may it continue.
I'm thinking of putting wee cards under all of the prints saying NO' it was taken on an Olympus 4/3rds or m4/3rds camera.

Great story and a really good idea for a regular thread. I'll definitely look forward to the next installment. Maybe one day I'll make it to see for myself in person.

      Nice story!

I'd love to upgrade from my e520 but I guess I'm going to have to stick with it until it finally gives up the ghost...however, I've also got the e510 as a spare and have no complaints...the quality of the images is superb from both cameras...the technical ability of the photographer is however in doubt!

Wasn't Hammy the Hamster in Tales from the Tea Room?

Well done Jon, I too enjoy the tales.
Be careful though, if everyone decides they are going to buy E-M5s when they go home, they might not have enough spare money to buy your lovely prints!

                        Thanks for the encouragement .
DavidM if a hamster came into our tea room it would damn soon be either in a cake.
a filled roll, or possibly the soup!
Iain MacD Ah the plann is they buy a print to see what can be achieved with an Oly camera and lenses.

Oops, it was Hammy Hamster in Tales of the riverbank. I never realised it was a Canadian made show until I googled it.
