Well, I thought that given the recent food scare seafood would be safe, but I've just had a Fish Pie and found traces of Seahorse in it .....

A few years ago in Canada they 'rebranded' Buffalo meat as Bison as people were passing off Water Buffalo as American Buffalo.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

We've got a rather dubious pack of scampi bites in the freezer. The main ingredient listed is "reconstituted scampi." Reconstituted from what?

Careful John, now you are about to step over the line - disgusting!

But whilest we are at it, isn't it so that zillions of Seahorses are eaten by, most probably Asian nuts, to get the thing going again?!

Oh well, now I might have fallen into my own trapp, right?

Perhaps we should both stop digging the same hole before it gets too deep!

I'm not quite so worried about fish as I am by meat. This whole business is causing us to take a greater interest in what we actually are eating, though.

There was a time when a lot of "scampi" was made from monkfish tails - as highlighted by Fester Rancid on 'That's Life' (showing my age now!). Then monkfish tails became fashionable in all the best seafood restaurants and the price went through the roof. And it dawned on the people who had previously moaned about monkfish in scampi that actually they'd been getting a bit of a bargain.
I'm looking forward to the beef in horseburger food scandal in about 20 years time.

I wonder how long before we find products containing locusts and meal worms instead of meat.

I've eaten deep fried grasshoppers in Thailand and they're quite nice, and crunchy too.

                        Could replace Pringles.

In China I've had chickens feet (not a lot of meat) and snake, which tastes a lot like chicken. My Chinese hosts tried to wind me up about snake soup by telling me there was a Cantonese saying "the more poisonous the snake the tastier the soup" followed by " good soup this isn't it?"
Another (modern) Cantonese saying is apparently " we eat anything that flies, except aeroplanes and anything that runs on the ground, except cars."

                        It's all in the mind.

When out in Malawi on mission work we used to pass street traders selling bbq'd mice on skewers. Never was brave enough to try them.

                              Put it this way:

If it keeps you alive, it's food................
If it kills you, it's science......................
