Re: New book
Thanks for sharing, Shirley. It's a beautiful book and a reminder of your wide imagination and range of photographic skills, with some truely stunning pictures. I marvel at your vision and sense of timing for street photography; your ability to isolate and emphasize small details is impressive and you are gifted with a talent to spot the extraordninary amongst the ordinary.
You've travelled a long way on your photographic journey in a relatively short time, but I'm sure it is a journey which still has a lot further to go as you continue to improve your skills and develope your inner vision. I look forward to sharing your progress.John

Re: New book
I echo John's comments it's a really beautiful book Shirley. Very glad you decided to share it. I feel very priviledged to have been shown your photographic journey so far. Blurb's prices are a bit steep though!

Re: New book
Thank you John, Phil and Dave for taking the time to look and for your kind comments.
I have often thought the prices are high but I have looked elsewhere and found them to be competitive for the printing of a single book. This book has approx 160 pages, I think a similar sized Photobox book is £22 for a 26 pages, with 99p per additional page, making its cost well over £100!
If anybody know of cheaper ways of producing books I would love to know.
The cost of buying the book is one reason why I enable preview of the full book, not sure if that is a service other online printers offer, but I am pleased people can enjoy it without any cost.
Thanks again

Re: New book
An excellent and eclectic set of images. Far ranging both in subject matter and treatment but singular in their beauty.
You are most certainly a photographer of note and I look forward to seeing a lot more of your work.
Time to get your MFIAP perhaps?

Re: New book
Are the prices high? Yes and no.
It is unquestionable a high price for someone to pay, especially compared to the mass produced books by famous photographers, but that's due to economies of scale. With Blurb we are looking at individual books printed to order. The company might only get one order, from the author him/herself. Bespoke printing like this, if it was even possible, would have cost many hundreds of pounds per book before digital technology made it possible in it's present form. Also, as Shirley points out, her latest book is 160 pages!
My own book reached it's 50th sale just before Christmas, given a boost by the new facility of making it available as an e-book at a very cheap price. Since this became available 10 of the 12 sales made in that period have been for the e-book. However, nothing beats having a good quality traditional book in your hands and Blurb quality is excellent. In fact, it was the quality of Shirley's first book which convinced me to use Blurb myself.
Will I buy Shirley's book? I'd love to, because her work is original, inspirational and very high quality, but in the present economic situation I just don't have that sort of money readily available. Fortunately she has made the whole work available for us to enjoy on preview, just be sure to click for Full Screen to enjoy it at it's best.John

Re: New book
Shirley, a book "showing your own progress" ?
Phill D " ... prices steep ... "
This is a fantastic autobiography of your journey from "Point, Click & Print" with a camera to one who is a professional in all aspects of Photographic Alchemy ...
I am BLOWN AWAY by the CONTENT THEREIN
This record of your achievements in "your eye" and "use of camera, lens, light, composition and exposure" is, to a prospective photography student, as a Round the World Ticket, is to a Geography student.
It evidences your creativity and eXperimentation, going against the grain; thinking outside the "BOX". First, when you meet your subject and then, some.
IT evidences, your exploring of "tools" available to compliment the camera and lens kits - the processing opportunities; be they Photopshop; Lightroom; Corel photo, Painter, Essentials/ Paintshop or Redfield and Nik "plugins".
I purchase, for the devine INSPIRATION; the POSSIBILITY THINKING and the CREATIVITY, diverse from "Out of Camera" thinking.
The Price ? Is, but an INVESTMENT, in my future "Fun with camera Kit" - not just a "Coffee Table Book". But oh! so much more. That is, if one is to take a section, just one idea and learn from a Master - how to have MUCH MORE FUN !
My copy shall sit with Ansel Adams "The Making of 40 Photographs"; BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year; Mario Testino & Vogue image books and Tom Ang too. ps and Johns' "Light Fantastic". It shall develop "worn corners and not be in "pristine condition" - but shall not be lent to anyone - others may look onlineand ponder if their entertainment and attainment are worth the price of a Football or Opera ticket ? but for not one game/performance but a LIFETIME of FUN and Personal Develoment !
ps I must add, that your choice of page layout is sublime. Your font compliments the images therein. The volume of text, enough - but not too much
AND the "frame" about each image, laying on the grey backdrop The very BEST in presentation. A publisher would be very proud of this book.

Hi Shirley,
Fantastic photos, beatifully laid out etc.
I'm having a go at assembling a LRPS panel and I will use your pictures as a benchmark.
I'm with Chevvy on this one ... will be on my bookshelf.
A bit humbling really.

Re: New book
I have been out at a family meal in Birmingham and have just come back to find all these amazing comments. I feel genuinely embarrassed and humbled.
Thank you so much for the huge encouragement, I am bowled over that some people have even bought a copy :0
I was thrilled to see that you have sold so many copies of your book John, I have converted mine to an eBook but I am disappointed that some of the formatting has changed. Some of the pics do not sit properly on the page and I have had to change the font. However, most of the pics still look OK.
Thanks again to all of you.
