    Re: Tablet Wars

    Continued .../

For others, no... but for myself - I always have to justify my purchases, and when I didn't actually need a tablet/pad, I found it especially difficult.

However, desperately needing a pick-me-up, together with certain specific apps being available that allow me to be more effective in my home studio (music, not photography) set up, I opted for the iPad Mini. Didn't need the 3G version as I can tether from my existing iPhone so I opted for the base model, 16GB version with WiFi. Must say, am using it for a lot more things than I first anticipated. Wish I'd got one sooner to be honest.[/QUOTE]

I am sure the games and lots of apps are also great - but really its useful with just the browse internet facility to keep in touch

I cannot believe the "Tablet" photo cameras are useful for anything other than facebook/social network snapshots/reportage or ebay for sale photos. Hopefully if they do upgrade significantly, we shall hear

Due to an unresolved technical error I am currently unable to post long replies.

Edit: As I see it we are trending towards small smart devices both in phones and cameras and inevitably these are already being wed in one form or another. It is conceivable that eventually we will see the launch of a camera phone for togers, i.e., an 18MPS+ camera with internet connectivity that uploads to Cloud, sends Instagrams to social media and incorporates a phone with advanced voice recognition capability enabling its user to select all camera settings by voice command - gimme!, gimme!, gimme! - I WANT ONE !

However, when the iPad Mini was released, the £269 price tag seemed a little closer to what I was happy to spend. If I wasn't already encapsulated in all things Mac, I would have possibly taken a closer look at the Google Nexus 7 - which at first glance looks fabulous.

Edit: John, given your existing investments the choice between an Apple iPad or an Android Tab is well understood. Both you and Chevvy are way ahead of me as presently I have neither. As a progression from my Galaxy S2 smartphone I await the launch of Samsung's upgrade of the widely celebrated Note 2 Phablet , a 4G LTE pocketable device, most likely incorporating a 16MPS camera.

Edit: Chevvy, initially you are probably right about the quality of photo cameras but technologies are developing rapidly and if the world doesn't end next week (on my birthday) as prophesied then maybe we will all live long enough to own a Note3.

Edit: Ian, I took account of your thinking in another thread, that for you the Note2 offers little more than your Note1 and that you would wait for the projected Note3 before upgrading. Likewise, I discounted phone cameras for the same conclusions but a 16MP phone camera could be a whole new ballgame, although if the *launch date is reliable then I will have to wait until October next year.

Edit: My interest in the Note3 is for a go-everywhere camera phone/computer to serve a growing interest and participation in Social Media.
For more serious photography I still have the E-3.
