I was down at Gretna this afternoon, as the sun was setting, and the flock of starlings coming in to roost was unbelievable. What a sight, unfortunately I was there on business so no shots but if anyone is in the area it is definitely well worth going to see.

Rutland Water is good most years. I don't know about this year, I haven't been to the reserve recently so haven't seen the reports.

When we come back from Englandshire in the new Year we are planning to stop at Gretna for a wee while. Where is a good place to see and hopefully photograph/film the Starling
flocks?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Come of the motorway and head for the Gretna Gateway Centre. Just sit in the car park and enjoy Jon

The starling flock has moved a couple of miles outside Gretna but is still enormous in numbers. I took this last weekend near a small village called Rigg

Apparently there's a big swarm in south/central Cheshire at the moment but I don't know where they're roosting.
