It shows the importance of checking bank and credit card balances regularly. I found some fraudulent transactions on a credit card a few years ago but the bank quickly refunded them and changed the card.

My bank notifies me if it finds suspicious transactions, which are usually genuine, but of course they can't spot everything. I always insist on paper statements and check them monthly against my own accounts. Scary, though!

I saw a reference to that when I was researching the fraud yesterday. I suppose with all the online purchases and payments that we make these days all it takes is one corrupt individual in a company credit department. Or someone just needs to note down the details of your debit card.

The reason they use Wonga is that they are willing to make the loan payment to one account and receive repayments from another. They will also arrange the loan extremly quickly - at enormous interest rates. It is rather scary and very depressing.

Seems that Wonga are not helping matters by failing to insist that repayment is made from the same account to which the loan way made.

Never cut up a card. It has transaction details on it that can be used as proof of use.

Always report it to the Police. It's theft and is further indication that you are innocent of any wrong doing.

Any problems should be refered straight to the Financial Ombudsman Service. They are great, I got a full award of claim plus interest.

Thanks for the useful tips Graham. Unfortunately it is too late for the card as she cut it up as soon as the bank told her to. I will suggest that she contacts the police, although she is up to her neck with work at the moment.

I would think that access to your bank account without your authorisation is plain and simple theft - by Wonga!

Why don't they get prosecuted?

Good news. Lynn checked her bank account yesterday and the money has been repaid into it. She has not been contacted by the bank and is still waiting for her new debit card but at least the money is back. I shall now spit every time I see the Wonga adverts on TV!

If I hacked into someones bank account and took some money, I'd get prosecuted. So why don't Wonga get prosecuted for doing the same?
