I am in a dilemma

Galaxy Tab 10.1 +Wifi + 3G + Android 4.0

Apple iPad 2

I have decided on the following SPEC :

1) Black
2) Wifi
3) 3g


What experience of Battery Life does anyone have on here ?

Even without comparing the specifications I'd go for the Galaxy, the main reason being that you're not locked into a propriety system.

If you just want it to work, then get the iPad

I've got an iPad 2 and an android tablet.... iPad wins hands down

I'm a complete IT innocent. I've got an Ipad 2 and I'm very impressed. Battery life is fairly good, about 8 or 9 hours.
I couldn't say one way or another about the Galaxy.

Why not the new iPad (iPad 3)?
If you want to display pictures on it it's fantastic. The new screen technology is unbelievable, way better than my PC display. I'm now re-visiting all my shots on SWMBO's and can't believe the difference.

Ok ! Thanks everso much for everyone contribution I think I shall pop into a store which sells both and compare in a "live" use !

My needs are

a) View photos on Flickr etc., Show photos on Photobucket anywhere

b) catch up on emails when out and about OR Virgin Broadband is down, anywhere by 3g or Wifi

c) maybe Skype ...

d) maybe Kindle reads

Hi Chevvy, as you know I simply adore my i-Pad.
With input from Neil, we think....
Frank is so right. If you want to fiddle - Galaxy. If you want something that works - I-Pad.
Your needs are much like mine. I don't want to do spreadsheets etc. or would have gone Galaxy if I did.
But for simplicity and for never letting you down - I-Pad rules!

Because you are about to make an important decision in your choice of a tablet, I consulted with my son whose business it is to closely analyse the latest developments in smartphone technologies. Here are some of his reasons for rating the Galaxy above iPad.

Well the first thing I noticed on the Samsung is the screen 1280 x 800 and its latest PLS screen technology. The Samsung's screen is the better.

I would choose the Samsung Galaxy TAB 2 because it has a higher definition display 800 x 1280, and Samsung's PLS display is better than ipad 2s Retina display (I-PS).

Samsungs protective Gorilla Glass is better than ipad 2.

Samsungs TAB 2 has card slot up to 32GB.

SAMSUNGS TAB 2 has higher 3G speed capability 21 Mbps compared to ipad 2.

SAMSUNGS Bluetooth 3.0 is better than ipad 2.

Wifi is the same except Samsungs has WIFI Direct and WiFi hotspot.

Wifi direct is very fast way to transfer music, video etc. - fantastic feature if you have a compatible device.

Wifi hotspot means you can tether your phone to the tablet again great feature !!

Samsung has a higher resolution camera than the ipad 2.

Looks like SAMSUNGS TAB has two satellite systems to get a fix on - the Russian GLONASS and U.S GPS.

That means (Samsung) faster fix and more accurate.

Samsung has twice the system memory 1GH compared to ipad 2.

Samsung has bigger battery 7000 mAH.

I can't see any compelling reason to buy the Ipad which is old technology and clearly inferior.

Go to Gsmarena website and compare the models yourself.

Also realise there are two Samsung models 9100 and 9110.

You may need to compare the two and the rest is your decision, Chevvy.

Jim raises another important point not mentioned in my son's comparisons.
Galaxy is an "Open source" device compared to the iPad's "Proprietory" system.

One from left field here.

Andorid yes but why not consider the ASUS. I have a TF101 and it's excellent. As trouble free, in terms of s/w install and upgrades, as an iPad but with much, much more flexible expansion and memory opportunities.

I have a 32GB micro SD card in the whole time and of course I can swap if I want to so I use it as a backup and RAW viewing platform, several viewers available at min cost which are getting more sophisticated almost by the day, if I'm away from home. I can also plug in, via the USB adapter, an external disk should I wish to. I've tried it on a 1TB external drive and got instant access with no problem. Basically any USB device ought to work.

Android is just more flexible in my view and less constrained and controlled. I speak of course as someone who works in IT so I look at things a little differently to a non techie.

Interestingly the tablet version of all the Adobe products (e.g. Photoshop Touch, came out on Android first which may, or may not, be an indicator for the future.

I am not going to debate what is better or not, just one advice:

Don't select on specs, select on user experience.
Try them both and take what feels the best for you.

( And not selecting on specs is something that an Oly user should be familiar with... )
