Down but not out

Well I have not proved the OM-D is not a "tank", after a slip on a rock today, I now have a battered and bruised OM-D in need of some care and attention from Olympus.

However, Although the 12-50 sheared off at the mount it was on the lens side and the LCD has got several cracks in it and doesn't work at all, the EVF and the rest of the camera still works, although with a few scratches. So different lens on and I've still managed to shoot for the rest of the day.

Now the question is the cost of repairs, the lens I'm guessing is going to be a right off, but the LCD should be easy to replace. Just hope Olympus have the parts at the moment, could really do with it back for the paralympics.

Flippin 'eck that had to be some kind of impact : sheared off the lens!
Take a picture of the still-working wreck before you send it off, please!

Phew yes that does sound like a pretty hard impact. Never heard of anyone shearing off a lens! You must be gutted. Hope you ended up in better shape than your OM-D.

I have had plenty of cameras with scratches on due to my penchant for climbing over walls, styles, tree stumps etc. with the kit round my shoulder, but only once dropped a Panasonic DMC FZ30 6ft onto a stone patio in Greece. A broken lens hood and a scuff or two but otherwise all was well. How far did it fall to do that damage and did you land on top of it? Was it insured?

Would your home contents insurance cover you? I know mine would. I claimed for a lost 50-200mm lens (fell into a river) a few years ago and I had the newer SWD version in my hands within 48 hours.

I didn't go down that hard. The normal thing, walking on some rocks at the bottom of a waterfall, that looked dry and grippy until you tread on one.

I think I landing on the camera, it's the only way I can see how I damage the front (lens mount) and back (LCD).

I know I'm covered under the house insurance (double checked previously), so if the repairs exceed the excess and loss of no claims bonus then I'll put a claim in.

I'll post a few pictures tomorrow if I can.
