  • socket outlets

Just moved into our new (to us) bungalow and the room I am to share with SWMBO has only one socket outlet. I need to run an iMac, her windows machine, couple of external HD's, laser printer, 2 inkjets, 2 shredders and a lamp.

Eventually, week after next probably, I will get an electrician to put in at least one more socket but for the time being do you think the one socket will cope?

    Re: socket outlets

Whole lot will be less than 1000 Watts which is 4 Amps so no problem.

Get one 8 way Distribution board rather than daisy chaining.

A surge protected one if you can get one reasonably.

Asda were selling black 8-way switched socket units for a tenner the other day.
          I got two.
Next to the car stuff and lightbulbs.

            Hey Dave

OK, a little more expensive than those mentioned thus far, but this is the sort of thing you need:

Buy Product not found at Argos. Thousands of products for same day delivery, or fast store collection.

                Re: socket outlets

One of the smartest decisions I made when I had a home office constructed was to have an electrician put in 8 separate power points - and also put the whole thing on a separate power borad circuit.

I now run off this system:

                1. An Epsom Printer.
                2. Sanyo LCD TV
                3. External 1 gig backup drive
                4. My Windows 7 desktop and monitor.
                5. Cordless telephone.
                6. Daughter's laptop.
                7. Most importantly bar fridge.
                8. Wireless router.
                9. UHF digital antenae.

Because I have need to use a couple of double adapters on my side of the office - I still have 3 spare points at this stage.

Gotta say that the 10 point surge thingy is just the job, can run all I need from it, and cheaper than getting a sparky in.
