I use an SSD for the boot drive, major programs such as Lightroom, and for the Lightroom catalogue. It certainly feels speedy and boots (and shuts down) faster than before.

A SSD can give you a great performance boost. Anything that is disk intensive feels quicker.
However you need to be running a Mac or Windows 7 to get the best though. A complete re-install is also advised, as Windows 7 will detect the SSD and setup accordingly.
If you have a second HDD or network storage then you can keep your data on that drive, which means that you can choose a smaller SSD (Cheaper) for the boot drive.
The smaller 64-128MB newer units are the best value.
I have a 64GB in my wifes machine and a 120GB in mine.
I reviewed a budget SanDisk Ultra SSD here, with the aim of adding live to an old laptop. Shortly I will be doing the same to a desktop PC using a higher perfromance SSD from Kingston.
I have a 120Gb SSD, and it hosts Windows 7, Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 4, Lightroom catalogue, and a few other bits and pieces, and it's just about half-full (or empty). Would you get much benefit from going for a larger drive?
