If changing OS was an option you'd get the same result with Ubuntu or just about any of the linux based OS for the matter and for a hell of alot less cash too.

I've used Norton on both my machines for several years and it's always done what it says on the tin.

Yup, I'd love to go mac and will do eventually. Susan uses a 27" iMac and it's awesome.

I think I'll get another year out my pc before I can justify upgrading to a mac. On a side note the mac is sooo much better than my pc for recording music and stuff :-)

So, er, if you don't have any antivirus software installed how do you know that you don't have any viruses!

On a more serious note for a potential buyer when funds permit:

            (1) What do you Mac folks do about firewalls?

            (2) How much RAM do you consider adequate and how much do you consider ideal (for photo editing, surfing and MS Office)?

Me? PC for 17 years. Various a/v software installed. Never any virus detected or even stopped. Doesn't tell you anything - except that I practice safe hex.

I had an email today, subject "Antivirus 2011 Update." Deleted it without opening of course.

                  [preach]

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

Sorry John that's overstating and taking risks with your personal data that should never be recommended. Yes Macs are good for some people, but as a minority OS they will never be the same level of target, but as you say how AV so how on earth would you know all your machines could be riddled

Me - I can't live with the limitations of Apple products (any of them)

                  [/preach]

like others in this thread I have used all sorts of security software over the years and it's currently AVG having got P**d off with my AV recently and wanting a switch in a hurry.

I have to admit that after many years of avoiding Norton it's actually getting good reviews recently - it may be worth trying again

I would say that all AV companies iprove in fits and starts so I only go for the 1 year deal as I made the mistake of wasting money once on a package that was poorly updated (Bullguard)
