    Sincere apologies if offended

It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

    Wally,
I've got to say that although this is meant in jest I think it's really inappropriate and the post should be withdrawn.

      Re: My Dog

It is frighteningly close to reality, at least in my part of the world.

PC gone mad I am afraid - I was going to try it on with my black cat who is idle, cannot understand english, of no known parentage to see if he could get social security as well

            Derek,
I'm sorry if you think my intervention is 'PC gone mad I am afraid' - I don't think so. We are a forum who welcomes everyone with an Olympus e-systems camera. What if you were of an ethnic background, had just bought an Olympus, came across this site and that was the first post you'd seen - you'd soon go elsewhere I'm sure. I can take a joke like the next man but I don't see the funny side of racist stereotyping. Take a look at the header for the lounge segment - Just keep it clean and polite - I think we should stick to that.

The joke is on the politicians who set up the schemes and the people who apply the rules according to the book.

Not the people that cannot read english who by definition will not be offended

                Derek,
I've got to reiterate what if you were of an ethnic background and had read that - what would you think of this forum if there was no comment on it?

                    Derek,
As someone who's worked and paid taxes in this country for the last 39 years I've got to disagree that the generalisation and stereotyping of people is simply wrong. Whether it's in jest or as part of a programme it is still wrong.

                      Re: My Dog

Hey folks, let it go. We're digging a hole so deep we'll never get out. We all have different views on every subject, so each to their own and let's leave it at that.

However, just for the record, 'MY DOG' was sent to me by email from an old RAF pal from the 60's. He's Welsh and he's as black as the Ace of Spades. As a Welshman with a fantastic tan, you can guess the ribbing that took place as indeed, as a Scot it was returned. We are still good friends and are Godfather's to each others children. Read into this as you will and, if this makes me a racist, then so be it.

Just my 2p's worth, but perhaps if certain groups didn't take it upon themselves to decide on behalf of others about what is offensive, then perhaps the world might not be the toilet we live in. Having been put through the grist of the mill that is life I learned a long time ago to laugh at myself and not to take myself too seriously. These two traits seem to be lacking in many parts of today's society.

If you want to get off on something, then just of curiosity, how many of us have attended courses and heard the phrase 'KISS' for Keep It Simple Stupid and not been offended? This phrase seems to be the modern put down that in the main, goes un-noticed.

In my day, 'KISS' stood for Keep It Short-n-Sweet. In other words, don't get bogged down in gobbledy-gook. Every trade and or profession has it's own short-hand and geek-speak, just because you're not up to speed in each doesn't mean you're thick.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

OK, not sure that continuing this thread is entirely productive so I shall close it. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, whichever one that is, and I also think everyone has had an opportunity to have their say, and has said it. All is good.

So... keep smiling and let's move on... anyone for pics...
