  • Am I Welcome? ;)

Hello! - Long time since i have been on here (due to me selling up for personal reasons), but still visited as a 'guest' from time to time

Anyways, i have managed to get myself a good deal on a Panasonic GF1 (i did look at the Pen series but the handling on the GF1 suits me more) and the wonderful 20mm 1.7 (the only lens i ever used last time i had one) and am getting back into 'spotting' images etc.

I have always valued the feedback i get on here as opposed to the 'other' site where opions and comments can be very one sided if you do not have the right kit in your bag, so i was hoping that i could share images on here.

Why post a thread asking if i am welcome? - some of you may remember the 'grief' i got when i posted some of my 365 shots up from my D700 and it left a real sour taste so i avoided the site for a good while following that, so if i was to get the same then i would rather not head down that route?

    Keep happy

    Chris

    Re: Am I Welcome?

Well.. My personal opinion is that you can stay registered and follow disussions if you want to. It's after all an open forum. But when it comes to tecnical things, photos etc I think fourthird-user.com will be the right forum for you. As the name says in this forum : "E-System talk" = Olympus.

Well at two-all, i think it may be a contentious issue, so in all honesty i dont think i'll bother.

I'll still visit occasionally (you dont get rid of me that easily!) and see whats happening.

                Re: Am I Welcome?

Of course you are welcome - you have a lot of E-System knowledge and Olympus is in partnership with Panasonic to promote Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds, so I don't see any problem at all.

I have no problems in welcoming you back. I could use any m4/3 tips you have, no matter whose kit you use.

                        Always!

I still drop by the 365 every now and then, to get inspiration from your images and to smile at what the girls get up to, or at least what they let you see them doing

                          Re: Am I Welcome?

                          always welcome...

yes it is contentious on a specific E system forum to post non- E system images if not in an appropriate context but I think Ian has softened any hardline that may be perceived - this is also a UK group but has many overseas active members.

You could always post on FTU and link to here if you wanted feel more comfortable

But the decision is yours in the end, if I dont see your images here I will see them on FTU but as for your experience and hence opinion on E system kit especially in comparison to other marques...you'd better be posting here

                            Re: Am I Welcome?

Hi Chris, great to hear from you!

One thing that sets this forum apart from others is that you do tend to make friends with people, online friends maybe, but friends nevertheless. And friends don't let a little thing like brand of camera come between them.

Really, Olympus and Panasonic have become such an inter-dependant partnership that they are inseperable and the aspects of one, including image quality, are entirely relevant to the other. And you have such in depth experience of the E-System (not to mention Nikon Full Frame ) that your ability to compare capabilities of the various systems is guaranteed to provide us all with a useful insight.

I'm sure that for the majority of us our kit bags are constantly evolving. Who's to say that you won't eventually use an E-System lens on your GF1? Similarly, when funds allow I might well change my G1 for an E-PL1 - but keep the Panny 14-45mm lens for it. That would grey the issue a bit, don't you think? Strictly speaking would either, neither or both of us be entitled to post? And what about people that use an E-System body with a Sigma lens? Should pictures taken with those combinations be allowed if we are to retain the purity of the site?

My feeling is that we can remain broadly tolerant of images taken with any camera and lens, as long as the member has a genuine interest (not necessarily the same as current ownership) of E-System cameras. The comparison is always useful and as Olympus owners we have nothing to fear, the images from our cameras/lenses can stand comparison to any other marque! The only exception to this, of course, would be deliberate trolling by someone with obviously no genuine interest in the E-System.

So, to answer your question, Chris - yes of course you are welcome, great to have you back!
