So, you're taking photographs and a policeman approaches you and demands that you stop. You reach into your bag to get your A.P. freebie and the cop clubs you to the ground with his side-handled baton - or worse, shoots you several times in the head!

Whilst I applaud AP's efforts to clarify the law, having shown the text to a friend who's a senior officer here in Scotland he offered the opinion that it would be counter-productive outside London. It refers to the Metropolitan Police, who of course have no jurisdiction over any other police force. To suggest to, say, a Lothian and Borders officer that he obeys a London edict would be like a red rag to a bull!
