    Re: Disastrous wedding

In what way are they bad? Are they amenable to some 'Heavy Photoshopping'?

Hmmm. Sounds like a poisoned chalice you have been given. :-(

You could squash multiple images onto single prints like this..

maybe arrange them at jaunty angles and use some drop shadow on each to try to make a silk purse....

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

        Hi Paul,

Sounds like you're under pressure to walk on water!

Just how bad are they? Any chance of posting a few typical images so we can make specific suggestions?

Without posting a few we can't give meaningful advice. Maybe with a clear view from other eyes they won't seem so bad.

So, repeating other comments : Post some examples!

            Re: Disastrous wedding

real bummer shooting with Niko - hard to blame the equipement for anything

I like the idea of trying to focus on the packaging of the day more than the image quality.

You can also 're-shoot' with crops/angles and photoshop to get unrecognisable images - great until someone likes one so much they want it 10 x 8!

examples would be nice - not in the least because it might make me feel better about the last 2 I have just done (in bright sunshine)
            E, Pen and OM-D bodies
            43 m43 and legacy glass
loads of flashes and accessories from all the systems

              Re: Disastrous wedding

Thanks for the votes of sympathy guys. Basically the problem is that the exposures and colour balance seem to be all over the place. Here's an example:

There are quite a few that are just about workable with but they still don't look sharp or fully in focus to me. Even my other half can see the vast difference between these and my own pics. An example of one of the better shots:

So this is what I have to work with - about 190 of the latter quality (and quite a lot duplicated) and 500+ of garbage.

Pete - I like your idea of a montage type thing and in fact someone elsewhere has suggested some software that produces custom albums which I may well investigate. I will report back if and when I manage to produce anything. In the meantime any advice re the photos above will be very gratefully accepted. Thanks guys

sort of jobs I find opening the files in ACR helps with - one touch WB on jpegs the push me pull you on the exposures etc

thanks for the examples - (houston) you have a problem...

Outer space seems like a good place to be right now. I didn't know ACR worked with JPEGs - I only ever see it when I double click on a RAW file. But even if I was prepared to work through the 500 odd bad shots and correct them I think I'd still only finish up with the quality of the second of the two shots (the word fuzzy springs to mind) so I might as well save a lot of time and work with the better examples. So it's back to presenting them in the best way rather than fixing them I think.

                    Re: Disastrous wedding

Well, they need a bit of work and TLC, that's for sure, but they don't look beyond redemption. It depends how much time you are willing to invest, but yes - you've drawn the short straw! However, don't let the sheer number of around 700 get you down, you only need around 50 or 60 to make a decent album and the rest can be left to fester on the disc.

If you want me to play around with a couple to see what I can come up with send me a PM.

Opening JPEGs in ACR, can this be done in Elements or just in full Photoshop? If so, how's it done? Thanks.

Quick 5 min play in Lightroom I came up with this...

I'd say that would make a reasonable 7 x 5 for the album.

and just when you wanted to get out and enjoy these long summer evenings...
as has been said you dont need all 700 so whittle them down to less than 100 by content, sort your order out then off load the images that really are rubbish technically...a week or so later time to re-process...and dont drink before a processing session (how ever much you may want to!)

                            good luck

A lot better, but still a lot of mid greys that make the image look flat. I suppose it's inevitable with all the grey suits, but I wonder if the background was masked, the figures could be 'punched' up a bit to get a bit more contrast in them.

I tried right-click copying the original image, but it didn't work with Google Chrome.
