  • Out of service for a while...

Well it's been an interesting few days to say the least.

Was up in Harrogate on Saturday to meet up with an old friend and as i was walking on perfectly flat tarmac i felt something snap and it was a bit painful but as i get older I've realised that things hurting are the new norm.

Anyway spent 6hrs walking around Harrogate and then back to Wetherby for a walk and by now my foot wasn't really doing what feet should do so we went home.

At home I realised my ankle was swollen so we called 111 to be told head straight to A and E...In the early hours of Sunday morning was told they think I've snapped my Achilies Tendon - who knew an Achilies could snap? - so have been told to rest up, keep leg elevated and await a scan and if indeed the Achilies has snapped an op to repair it.

So looks like I won't be out with the camera for a bit.

Has anyone else had one snap? What was recovery time like as am already bored...am not a very patient patient.

I'm surprised you did so well immediately after.

    AI says:

"Most people can return to normal activities within four to six months, but it may take longer for those returning to high-impact sports".

It could be worse: the original Achilles had an arrow shot into his heel.

      Hi Harold,

When they did the tests the consultant said by lack of movement and size of it, it's snapped but then had a manipulation test (this was interesting to say the least) first test showed no movement so snap, second test there was slight movement so need scan to determine whats going on.

I do have added complications as was born with Talipese so had a lot of work done in both ankles when I was younger.

Will just have to wait and see what they say but as said I'm not the most patient patient.

Bad luck Matt, but wish you a speedy recovery. Get a chair in the garden, and photo birds, bees and insects....

That’s a bit of a shock. Not an injury I’ve had yet, most of my problems have been all above waist level.

Take care Matt and wishing you a good recovery.

Ouch! Medical manipulation tests can be a true eye watering experience.

Best wishes for a quick and full recovery.

            Thanks.

It's weird how at 40 things started to break more and when I turned 50 they broke even more.

Luckily the Achilies doesnt hurt too much i just dont like the blood thining injections into my stoumach...they are painful though only for about 10 seconds but it feels like an eternity.

Had some better news Friday, achilies is not snapped so op not needed. They don't know what has caused it but are treating it as tendonitis...so will be physio for a bit.

Pleased it's not a snap as they said I'd be looking at 12 months recovery!

Can't move my foot, but hopefully will get some movement in it soon.

I missed this while I was away. Sorry to hear you're in the wars, but it sounds as though it is not as bad as it could have been.

I know only too well what you mean about it getting easier to get crocked as the years roll by.

Me, too - sorry to hear this!

                  Was there any warning beforehand?

That scared me more than anything as no warning at all and for it to do this...this getting old malarkey ain't all it's cracked up to be.

it xould have been worse though so happy things aren't as bad as they could have been.

Scary - I'm taking vitamin D supplements to try to keep joints and bones in reasonable shape. No idea if this would help tendons.

Hopefully you'll be back to normal soon!

Well just thought I'd update this thread as was at the hospital last night for a second opinion.

Seems the leg is not in a good place at the moment and there'll be no quick fix. Going to be referred to a different physio in order to try get some movement back in the foot and then back to the consultant in 6 months time for him to make a decision on what to do going forward...seems it'll be a number of different ops...

                          Oh well.
