  • Computer Help Please!

    Hi,
I have just got a new laptop which is running on windows 7 with Norton security. When using off the internet everything is fine, but when connected to the internet the screen keeps flickering like mad! (like its constantly refreshing itself). Now I know its not the actual screen (or it would do it when not connected to the web) Someone suggested to me that it could be the refresh rate or resolution of the screen? I have the resolution set to the highest setting & it wont let me change the refresh rate which the computer has set to 60 hertz (although I have been told it should be at least 75 hertz). Now could I get this problem if I had a crap internet connection? or a setting in norton? or is it the refresh rate? or what? I would appreciate any ideas (in idiot proof English please as my computer knowledge is zero) Thank you in advance for any help
    Regards James.

I would contact the people you have bought it off, being a brand new computer they may beable to help you, do you have the latest video drivers, but personally I would give the supplier a ring.

60 hertz refresh rate is fine if that is what the video card sets as its maximum. 75 is an ideal for CRT screens, but LCD monitors seem fine at lower rates, and many video cards simply don't go so high. I think your problem is elsewhere. It might be worthwhile temporarily diabling or uninstalling Norton and seeing if the problem changes. But yes, as Geoff says, if it's under warranty speak to the support people.

Thank you both very much for your input. I have rectified the problem, I got rid of bing browser & replaced with google & hey presto it all works fine (so I think it must be bing is too slow?)
        Regards James.

What do you expect James, "Bing" is after all a Microsoft version
