  • After Tahoe 26.2 MacBook not starting when opening screen.

Since installing Tahoe 26.2 my MB refuses to turn on when I open the screen....it stays black.

To get things started I have to tap the on/off key and then the finger print key.......it's the same key BTW.

I have rebooted a couple of times to no avail.

My wife has a MB Air and hers seems OK after 26.2.

    Ho-Hum.

That’s annoying. I haven’t tried this myself but there’s a documented way of making it behave like this and also a way to reverse it - the later being what you need. An Apple Support article here

A Mac laptop with Apple silicon will automatically turn on and start up when you open its lid or connect it to a power source. With macOS Sequoia 15 or later, you can change this behaviour without affecting your ability to use your keyboard or trackpad to turn on your Mac.

It involves going down into the dungeon dimensions of the MacOS Terminal command line interface however. I don’t know why they don’t have this in the MacOS system settings.

Update: I just tried this command and it worked to disable and re-enable boot on lid open. If coming out of sleep mode is the issue, then I'm not sure of the solution apart from just trying it anyway. I actually wanted the option not to boot on lid open so I could clean the screen and keyboard!

This is the terminal command that should solve the boot issue and make it boot on lid open:

    sudo nvram -d BootPreference
