  • WANTED E-M1iii

Kicking myself that I've now passed up on 2 chances in this forum and 2 on eBay to secure an E-M1iii at great prices. Its been the financial outlay even for a used one that has held me back.

I'm really enjoying getting back into photography after a long absence, and although my E-M5iii is amazing, I'm hankering for a pro level camera body. I've dithered too many times so hoping someone might have an E-M1iii they are looking to move on in the near future.

    Thanks in advance.

There is not much difference between the E-M1 Mk II and III (IMHO of course ) so unless you are specifically after the extras that the Mk III offers it might be easier and cheaper to find a Mk II.

I think there are a few threads on here that discuss the differences in some detail.

Thanks John. This did cross my mind, as it would open up more options (and at prices which would sit well with me). My only hesitation is that an E-M1ii might not have any core performance improvements to my E-M5iii. I can live without bells and whistle features like ND filters, starry night and HHHR, but I really was hoping for better core AF performance stepping up to a 1 series.

I'll do my research and see if an E-M1ii provides that better core performance in the nicer larger ergonomic package. Thanks for the tip.

I think the focussing on the Mk II is the same as the III, or very similar. I am hazy on the details, but I think all the 1's use phase detect whereas the 5's use contrast detect, and PD is considered better for some applications. A small thing the 1's have over the 5's, which is a big plus for me, is a decent battery charge indicator.
Jeff has talked before of his experience with the grip coming adrift. I'm happy to say that I haven't had that problem - despite being a sweaty little so-and-so!

The AF is virtually the same on the EM1.2 and EM1.3. The main differences are:

          - Better eye detect
          - More flexible AF zones

The underlying tech is the same.

          According to DP review

"[E-M5 Mark III is] the first in the E-M5 line to offer on-sensor phase detect autofocus, which includes both face and eye detection modes. "

Thanks all for the ideas. I’ve decided to hold out for the E-M1iii if only for the newer processor, some of the additional digital tools (like HHHR) and the little joystick thingy which I hope will help with AF point selection.

However despite my predisposition to dithering, I did spot a used E-M5iii grip on WEX for £43 rather than £179 and jumped on it. It arrived today and is giving me the feel of the larger E-M1 sized grip ergonomics. This will suit me in the interim until I can find an E-M1iii.

What would your offer be? I have a unit with grip and 2 batteries complete with charger. BUT it's in Malaysia.
