Although you won't see it I consider it rather impolite to make your first post in the classifieds.
No hello or introduction of any kind, there is more to this forum than making a sale.

Actually the comment is neither rude or patronising it is simply common sense. You made an offer and the prospective buyer is perfectly within his rights to reject it for the reason stated.

As a recent new joiner (and poster) to the forum myself, it is awkward to be newby based on number of posts on your profile. The radio call-in phrase 'long time lister, first time caller' might be a good parallel here.

I actually discussed a purchase from Simon Bee for my first "post" which I didn't see as impolite in any way, it just happened to be my first chance to directly interact. (We didn't go ahead that time but I've purchased from him since - top bloke - thank you).

Being a membership of the forum means different things to different people.

I'm more than happy to sell to a first timer, but when sending a reasonable amount of money I like to see some sort of history.
That applies to any forum and in my view not unreasonable, caveat emptor is always my guide.

Not sure my firm, but polite no thank you warranted any further comments.
Thread closed as far as I am concerned

I definitely think we need to be more friendly to newer members. While Tram has a fair point regarding transactions, it was not well put.

mrendee Please don't take this experience to be normal and I'm sorry you were offended.

Thank you Ian, I appreciate your kind words. Whilst I may be a "newbie" to this forum I have been an active photographer for over 40 years. Just be cause i don't post here or introduce myself " formally" i was judged. I was merely offering to help out! I don't desperately need the money, or the sale, I was just Just making an offer to a fellow photographer in good faith with openness and honesty. It's a pity that doesn't count for much these days. Best wishes all, i shall make a bigger effort in understanding the hierarchy and subtle nuances of this place before posting again! 'happy snapping!
