Despite its size????? It is not exactly large! The 12-50 would be a more versatile (and smaller/lighter) travel lens especially when paired with the 40-150 (not the new one!). Not sure if many around here would part with theirs though................

How would the 12-50mm be more versatile? It's not exactly small either (for a m43). I actually have one I use underwater but it's not a lens I ever liked really, hence wanting something sharper, and faster that I actually want to use....

        Re: Olympus 12-40mm

I would always choose my 12-40 over my 12-50 but the latter is slightly longer in FL and it has a macro function. Lighter too but worse IQ. Good for video if you are into that sort of thing. Good luck with the search.

          Hi there everyone!

One advantage of the 12-50 over the 12-40 is the electric zoom function - which works when you are using the wi-fi app on a phone or tablet. So you can leave your camera on a tripod or table and zoom in or out remotely from somewhere warmer!

          Cheers,

          Ralph.

ha nice idea but I will be in the tropics! Anyway I'm really hoping to get away from my 12-50mm as I was never keen on that lens, unless I was forced to use it!

              Re: Olympus 12-40mm

The 12-40 is a superb lens but, because of the build quality, bulkier and heavier than its 12-50 cousin. However, it's a nicer lens all round.

There is no way I am parting with mine so go and find one of your own!

I bought my 12 ~ 40 from Carmarthen Cameras (following a heads up here), as their prices are always keen.

Have you thought about the Panasonic 12-35mm instead? I find it a very nice light lens. Mind you I have to confess I'm thinking I might have to let it go for the new 40-150mm once I have a chance to try one out, and determine if it will be too heavy for me!

                    Re: Olympus 12-40mm

I've considered - all in all I'd ideally take the olympus for the slight extra reach - however I would take the panasonic if the price was good. Saying that they all seem so popular they sell used as much as new!

If I don't find one, I won't take the 12-50mm away on travels, but rather the 12-32mm. Smaller and sharper.

I have a 12-40 I am thinking of selling and I sent you a PM yesterday evening. Did you get it? If not I will send it again.
