In my experience you'd be charged a flat 10% of the sale price by ebay plus (usually) a small listing fee and then a further 3.4% (3.9% if paid for in non sterling currency) by paypal.

Wish I had shares in ebay.............

Anybody sold under commission through a camera shop? What's the percentage for that?

Ffordes take 20% of the gross selling price for a commission sale.

You do nothing except send the camera to them. They value, describe, photogrpah, list on the website, sell (we hope) collect cash, ship, provide (and honour) the guarantee, and handle any dishonoured payments.

For more expensive or desirable gear, I think Ffordes is a much better route. Yes they charge a commission, but then they may well also get a higher price than you would via EBay - after all, a discerning buyer paying a lot of money may well want to use a reputable dealer offering a guarantee. I think this would be the way to go for gear that's worth more than two or three hundred pounds, unless you can sell via an enthusiast site like this one, where you avoid EBay fees and have some ability to track whether you are selling to a regular member who has a reputation to maintain!

Didn't know that, so went to the royal mail site and found out that the value that they pay out on is not the selling value, the cost value.

20% usually. Well it is where I live. Sold my kit in less than 4 hours.

20% seems like a good deal; likely to be hassle free and most likely commission on a better price in the first place.
