These Grebes were fun to watch with the young ones climbing on their backs. I grabbed some video clips hoping to go back for better morning or evening light but weather and a rare social commitment got in the way so I composed what I got with some stills into this short video. It is good that these grebes had young again this year - I watched and photographed them last year but never thought to take much video and it was going to be a project for this year but something got in the way to prevent me visiting so often!

Thanks for the comments. The story with the photo at the end was that the adult grebe was turfing a coot off of a nest. I had seen the coot building the nest earlier and was pretty sure it was not where the grebes originally nested. I suppose grebes would defend a decent nest site instinctively and especially as it had young and would see the coot as a threat. The coot held on for a bit then decided it wasn’t up for a fight and sloped off as shown in this photo - I would have done the same!

Thank you for your kind comment, I am glad you liked the photos. I have been very pleased with what is possible with these Olympus cameras - there is a lot of very good bird photography I have seen myself from others to inspire us all - and increasingly more with the Olympus OMD system. That is a good number of years of bird watching, I hope there will be many more!Originally posted by elmtrees View PostWith a serious interest in birds for over 60 years I can honestly say, quite the best photographic images of the species I've seen and well deserving of the praise given on this forum.
