  • The 15 Composition Elements in Photography

I came across this Youtube video the other day and was immediately impressed with this guy's presentational style and his knowlege and approach to composition. I found it very interesting and absorbing, well worth watching.

Haven't watched it as I rarely watch 'instructional' videos and don't feel I miss anything, I am happy with the results of my efforts -within the technical limitations of the equipment.

Surely with regards to composition the only important element is the opinion of the person who takes pics. It is very easy to crop or edit pics nowadays to get a pleasing result.

Ask 10 different photographers to take a pic of the same subject and you will get 10 different compositions.

When I was at college my lecturer used to say "before you fire the shutter ask yourself this - would you make a 20 x16in print from what you see in the viewfinder, if the answer is no is it worth taking the pic"?

We were using 5 x 4 format but the reasoning and decision is with the eye of the photographer not 'composition' rules.

I found it quite interesting, and well presented with good examples to back up the assertions.

I liked it. I have heard of all the guidelines before, but I agree it was well presented with examples.

Not sure how you can criticise something you haven't seen or feel you haven't missed anything. IMVHO.
